Lab Safety Plans

In this section, you will learn what a Lab Safety Plan is, who should have one and important features of a Lab Safety Plan. As a culminating activity, you will prepare a group presentation of three ways to improve the current Lab Safety Plan at your school.

High School Safety Plan

Using the list of resources below, find at least two High School Lab Safety Plans, other than the one for your school. Identify common features, then make a list of at least ten items you feel are important to a High School Lab Safety Plan. Identify three or more reasons why a school should have a Lab Safety Plan.

Commercial Safety Plan

Using the list of resources below, find at least two commercial or college Lab Safety Plans. List three or more comparisons between a commercial/college and a high school Lab Safety Plan.

Safety Plan Analysis

Obtain a copy of your school or district Lab Safety Plan. Compare this plan to the lists you made in activities 1 and 2. Identify at least three improvements that could be made to your current Lab Safety Plan.

With your group, prepare a presentation that could be given to the School District Board of Education encouraging the adoption of your three improvements.
